Guidelines for Using Brackets


Within quotations, brackets are used by the quoting writer to enclose his or her own inserted remarks.  Such remarks my be corrective, illustrative, or explanatory; eg.,  Mrs. Solange said, “CRTC [Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission] has been greatly criticized by the press.”
