Introduction

The focus of this section is to provide a review of written communication skills. The emphasis is on business or technical writing as opposed to creative writing. Part One reviews five basic components of effective written communication: grammar, sentence structure, organization, style, and formatting. Students should review the concepts in the order presented, and test themselves with the multiple-choice questions following the explanations. The answers are at the end of the section (page 35), so students can self-check. Part Two contains a multiple-choice style examination, which will be marked by an examiner. The results will be sent to both the student writing the exam and the program office.
