It all comes down to this – is the Earth our mother or just real- estate? Our decisions are either good for the Earth or against it. We will examine how various human philosophies, religions, cultural beliefs and political structures have impacted our home planet. We will compare how empires have clashed with indigenous peoples, particularly in the Americas.

Explore the experience and meaning associated with visiting 20th century battle elds and war memorials such as Vimy Ridge, Ypres, the Somme and Normandy. Delve into the signi cance of remembrance, examining how sites of memory are established with memorials and the preservation of landscapes and relics of war. Gain insight into the importance of war heritage in the 21st century and learn the power
of individual experiences of touring sites and “standing in the footsteps” of those who fought.

What makes you truly happy? While this may seem easy to determine, research suggests most people are actually poor at judging what is deeply ful lling. Happiness is in fact a complex emotion. Examine a wealth
of recent scienti c research that challenges many of our strongly held assumptions about what makes us “happy”. See how parts of your brain often “deceive you” into falsely believing something should bring happiness when in fact
it does not. Learn “happiness practices” to take home.
