Radical Notations


The properties that allow us to handle radical numbers in mathematical operations are:

Note that you can not multiply (or divide)  and  - the root indices (2 and 3) are different.

 

You will note that there are no properties for add and subtract. The distributive property allows us to do these operations.

 

 

Note that you can not add  and . Since the number inside the root sign is different, it is not possible to factor the radical part out.
