The Nature Kindergarten Experience: Professional Development for Educators

A forest school to reconnect children with nature began
September 2012 at Sangster Elementary School. Students spend 2.5 hours every morning exploring natural forest trails at RRU experiencing: a growing sense of wonder, improved health and tness, mental
and emotional development, awareness of the environment, and an appreciation and understanding of traditional ways of knowing with Nature as co-teacher. We will illustrate the background, development and rsthand experiences of the program’s educators in creating this model.
