Supplies
Royal Roads strongly recommends that all students possess their own laptop computers. Many students bring laptops to class to complete their work electronically. Other supplies include a daily planner, and stationery items such as pens, notebooks/binders, stapler, hole punch, highlighters, ruler, paper clips, correction uid, and a re llable water bottle. Your instructor may also recommend a special calculator.
Evaluation
In many countries, entire grades depend on one nal exam. Here, continuous evaluation allows you to acquire marks for: attendance, contribution or participation, assignments, quizzes, presentations, projects, eld work, as well as midterm and nal examinations. This system gives you more opportunities to prove (and improve) yourself for the duration of each term.
Attendance
Regular attendance is integral to your success and contributes
to your nal grade. Attendance is expected in all on-campus and online course activities (residencies, lectures, seminars, tutorials, and laboratories). Ten per cent (10%) of the semester’s curriculum is taught in each three-hour class.
Because Royal Roads focuses on applied learning, students work

in teams on practical projects. Absentees let team members down and group projects suffer.
It is important to be on time and prepared for class, as it shows respect for your teachers and classmates. You should arrive a few minutes earlier than the scheduled class start time so that you are ready when class begins.
Contribution and Participation
There is more to the classroom experience than listening,
reading and memorizing. At RRU, instructors expect students
to actively participate by asking and answering questions in class, sharing your own experiences, and contributing to team work and discussions. You will be asked to think critically, analyze,
and offer your opinion regarding course material. You may feel uncomfortable at rst, if the culture of the classroom that you are accustomed to does not encourage such active participation,
but your con dence will grow with practice.
Academic Conduct
In Canada, academic dishonesty is a very serious issue. Ensure that you are aware of the academic regulations.
Plagiarism is the act of presenting the ideas or works of another as one’s own. This applies to all materials, electronic or in print, including essays, work term reports or assignments, laboratory
