WAYNE STRANDLUND

Wayne Strandlund is the chancellor and chair of Royal Roads University’s board of governors. A prominent Victoria businessman, Strandlund has extensive experience in real estate activity including property valuation, sales, development, construction, project and property management and mortgage investment banking.
Strandlund is Royal Roads’ fifth chancellor and board chair. Appointed by the B.C. government, he has served on the board since July 2011, during which time he chaired the governance and nominating committee and served on the finance and audit committee.
The eldest of eight children and of Métis heritage, Strandlund spent a good deal of his childhood on the Cowessess Indian reservation in the Qu’Appelle Valley in rural south Saskatchewan. The Strandlund family moved to Victoria in 1962 where he later earned a honours Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a major in creative writing.
Strandlund has been an independent businessman, owning and operating his own business, since 1968. He is the founder, president and CEO of Fisgard Capital Corporation, a Victoria- based family-run mortgage investment fund he started in 1994. Strandlund is a director of the Real Estate Compensation Fund Corporation and a member of the Victoria Symphony Business Advisory Council.
He has served as president of the Victoria Real Estate Board and the British Columbia Real Estate Association. He is a former member of the Real Estate Council of British Columbia and governor of the Notary Foundation of British Columbia, and has represented the real estate industry on the Treaty Negotiations Advisory Committee and the British Columbia Expropriation Association. A founding member of the Canadian College for Chinese Studies, he lectured foreign students on the subject of Canadian securities.
A former director of the Pacific Rim Artisan Association, Strandlund is a proud supporter of the arts. He is an honorary life member and past director of the Victoria Symphony Society and past president of the Victoria Conservatory of Music. In 2014, he was presented with the Unforgettable Award for Outstanding Service to the Arts in Victoria from the Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera Victoria. He has sponsored numerous musical events, notably the two-week Symphony-in-the-Summer and Mozart Festivals, the nine-concert Beethoven Festival, and other fundraisers. Strandlund is the patron of Maestra Tania Miller, music director and conductor of the Victoria Symphony.
The Strandlund family is a regular enthusiastic supporter of education, arts, culture and sports, including Ballet Victoria and Dance Victoria, as well as numerous charities such as the Salvation Army, The Open Door and the Mustard Seed Food Bank.
