KATHY KINLOCH, MA

Kathy Kinloch has held myriad positions during a career spanning more than 30 years, with the common themes of leadership and service to others. A respected health-care professional, educator, public servant and executive, Kinloch has shaped both the health-care system and the post-secondary education sector in British Columbia and is widely recognized as a leader in organizational renewal in complex environments.
In January 2014, Kinloch was appointed president of British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), where she remains focused on broadening and deepening BCIT’s partnerships with business, industry and community in BC, across Canada and globally. She also served as president of Vancouver Community College from 2010 to 2013 and earlier as dean of health sciences at BCIT.
Kinloch worked as a registered nurse in Alberta and BC before becoming vice-president of Surrey Memorial Hospital, a position she held for 15 years. She was one of the first chief operating officers of Fraser Health Authority and then became a senior advisor at the BC Ministry of Health, where she helped to lead the restructuring of orthopedic surgical services provincially.
Kinloch holds a Bachelor of Science with Distinction (Nursing) from the University of Alberta. As a graduate of Royal Roads University, Kinloch holds a Master of Arts in Leadership and a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching. She received the Chancellor’s Award upon graduation from her master’s program. She has also taught as associate faculty in the Health Leadership program at Royal Roads and is a member of the School of Leadership Studies Advisory Council.
Among her many accolades, Kinloch has been recognized by Vancouver magazine in its 2015 and 2016 Power 50 Lists and was named one of BC’s most influential women in 2015 and 2017 by BCBusiness. She was a YWCA Metro Vancouver 2016 Women of Distinction Award winner and was a Public Sector Leader in the Women’s Executive Network’s Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards for 2015 and 2016. Business in Vancouver recently presented her with a 2017 Influential Women in Business Award.
Kinloch serves on various boards, including those of the Business Council of British Columbia, Polytechnics Canada, Surrey Hospital Foundation, Trades Training BC and TELUS. She is also a member of the Business Council of Canada’s Business/Higher Education Roundtable.
