Royal Roads University Advancement – Spring 2016
-
Life.changing
At Royal Roads, we do things differently.
Our graduate students have an average age of 39. Many of our younger students draw on a tremendously rich context of international experience.
Here, our role isn’t just to educate the mind, but to empower the person. We teach not just about new things, but new ways. Not just in classrooms, but within new networks.
Since 1995, we’ve helped more than 22,500 graduates from over 100 countries step out into the world with a competitive advantage and the power to transform their lives and communities with a Royal Roads education.
This is what we, together with our donors and community partners, help make happen.
Learning that changes lives

Each journey is unique. Each story is personal. Every day, the advancement team crosses paths with students,
researchers, alumni and donors who help us to bring all these stories together.
Impact came about because we want to introduce you to some of these people and to share a few of the ways they
are using their Royal Roads experience to make a difference in the world. It’s that synergy we want to celebrate and
– whether told from the perspective of
a student, donor or researcher – you’ll nd that many lives are touched by every single story.
Wayne Strandlund shares with us what inspired him to establish a new $100,000 bursary. You’ll also hear from Doctor of Social Sciences alumna Cheryl Heykoop on the awards that contributed to her research and work in Uganda. And as we begin 2016 we re ect on the people and celebrations that made our 75th anniversary year so very special.
Welcome to the rst issue of Impact.
